Sardinia is an immersion in a primordial and unspoiled world. 

Sardinia hides multiple treasures. Called iscussorgius or iscrixioxius in Campidanese Sardinian, they are often linked to stories with compelling and mysterious implications. These folk tales started spreading in the Middle Ages, when the rise of the magical arts and alchemy made the search for treasures an occult practice. It was said, that it was not men who found the treasures, but it was the treasures themselves to unfold to those deemed worthy. The Sea surrounding this Island also wanted to donate something to those who would be able to gather, process and work it: the byssus. Derived from the Latin word byssus, it consists of a set of filaments produced by a bivalve, the Pinna Nobilis, used by the animal to remain anchored to the solid substrate. This semi-fluid skein, once hardened by salty water, can be transformed into a highly prized fabric: the so called sea silk. The process of making byssus requires a great amount of manual dexterity, mastered only by the skilled hands of the weavers, who are capable of obtaining a yarn that is thinner than a hair, but a thousand times stronger. This gold-colored fabric, which is adorned with beautiful metallic reflections when struck by light, was used to sew the robes of Pharaohs, kings and high priests. A filament so precious that it was mentioned in the Holy Scriptures and soon became a tradition. The art of byssus weaving, in fact, spread throughout Sardinia, particularly in the Sant’Antioco area. To this day, in order to encourage the preservation of the Pinna Nobilis, byssus fishing is forbidden, but it is still possible to admire the artifacts made by the skilled and patient hands of the weavers. They hand down (through the use of yarns such as cotton and linen), from generation to generation, a legacy that has endured for centuries, and protect a heritage of culture and history that has no intention of fading away.
